THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS ARE WRITTEN FOR A SALON ENVIRONMENT, BUT CAN EASILY BE USED IN THE HOME OR ANY OTHER LOCATION WITH SOME MINOR ADJUSTMENTS

OVERVIEW

Your Comfort-Cape™ will always work the best when it is square to the shoulders and as forward of the ears as possible. The Comfort-Cape™ can be turned, twisted and shaped to conform to a variety of hair care needs for different people. The sides of the cape can be manipulated independently into numerous directions.

With proper care your Comfort-Cape™ will last a very long time. Enjoy your work and make life easier on yourself by using your Comfort-Cape™.

If your customer's shoulders are almost even with the sink height, seat them slightly away from the sink, so the water collects into the cape first, then empties into the sink second. Caution.... Do not seat the customer too far from the sink as the weight of the water might pull the Cape out of the sink (6 to 8 inches should be enough). See section, SINK SHAPES AND SEATING DISTANCE for added information.

PREPARING YOUR CUSTOMER

  1. Seat your customer with their back to the sink and their shoulders above the height of the sink so that the water can flow down the Comfort-Cape™ and into the sink.

  2. Lift the hair away from your customer's neck and apply a neck strip to your customer's neck.  Placing a neck strip or tissue onto the neck will eliminate the chill from a wet cape.

  3. Place a towel around the backside of the neck and clip it together under the chin in case of any accidental water leakage.

  4. Place a vinyl shampoo cape over the towel and fasten it snugly around the neck.

  5. Place the Comfort-Cape™ vertically into the sink with the neck, buckles and elastic end up.

APPLYING THE CAPE USING THE BUCKLES

  1. Stand to the frontal side of the customer, facing the sink.

  2. Place the Comfort-Cape™ onto the shoulders of your customer. Make sure the plastic side of the cape is against the customer's back and the fabric side away from the customer's back.
  3. Place bottom of cape in sink.

  4. Grab the buckles and velcro and bring the cape onto shoulders.

  5. Make sure cape is square on shoulders.

  6. Make sure cape is funneled into sink.

  7. Face the customer and grasp the buckles where the elastic is sewn, select the proper buckle combination, choosing one of four sizes (AC, AD, BC, BD; see fig. 1). Buckles coming within 1/2' or slightly overlapping should be adequate.

  8. Rotate the right buckle about 90 degrees (1/4 turn) and guide it halfway through the back of the left buckle

  9. Rotate the buckle back 90 degrees (1/4 turn) to a vertical position and slowly allow the elastic to position the buckles against each other.

  10. Remove one hand, leaving one finger between the neck and the elastic to help gauge the tension.

  11. The elastic should feel snug, not tight.
(Too Tight of a Fit Can Restrict Blood or Air Flow)

APPLYING THE CAPE USING THE VELCRO®

Face the customer, grasp the Velcro® near the neck, press the strip together and slide your fingers along the strip away from the neck until entire strip is secured.

POSITIONING THE CAPE DURING THE SHAMPOO

The Comfort-Cape™ should lay square on the shoulders of your customer to allow a wider area for water to collect.

  • Each side of the Comfort-Cape™ can be manipulated independently to assure that water collects onto the cape and into the sink.
  • Water does not flow uphill, therefore, your customer's shoulders must be higher than the lowest portion of the sink.

  • The Comfort-Cape™ should be forward of the ears (allowing a wider area for water to collect).

SINK SHAPES AND SEATING DISTANCE

  • Sinks as wide or wider than the Comfort-Cape™  are the ideal type of sink to use. Wide sinks will allow the Comfort-Cape™ to rest in the sink and keep its proper shape (square) during the shampooing.

  • Sinks narrower than the Comfort-Cape™ may cause three things to happen:

1) the bottom and body of the cape will squeeze together reducing the area that the cape has to collect water,

2) the shoulders of the cape will pull back and out of square,

3) the Comfort-Cape's collar will pull away from the customer's neck at the ears.

SOLUTION- Seat the customer approx. 6 to 8 inches farther away from the sink.  Seating your customer away from the sink allows the Comfort-Cape™ to lie in it proper position, (forward of the ears and shoulders square).

The cape will narrow quickly before the sink and may form a small pocket in front of the sink(Make sure the pocket of water isn't so large the weight of the water pulls the cape out of the sink).  Make sure the bottom of the Comfort-Cape™ is as far into the sink as possible to allow water to flow from the pocket into the sink when it reaches the height of the sink.

Your assistance may be needed to empty the water into the sink by reaching under the water pocket and slowly lifting the pocket until the water flows into the sink. Your assistance is necessary only when the weight of the water could pull the Comfort-Cape™ out of the sink.

THE ACTUAL SHAMPOOING

Use a squeegee method when wetting and rinsing hair to avoid splashing washing.

The squeegee method steps are as follows:

  1. The customer should remain sitting upright with their head tipped back slightly (enough to see the ceiling).

  2. Place one hand against the forehead hairline
(palm open toward the sink) while the other hand is holding the rinsing device (hose or water pitcher)
    .

  3. Wet the hair by moving both the rinsing hand and the squeegee hand simultaneously towards the back of the head. Shut off the water.

  4. Shampoo the hair, normally.

  5. Rinse hair by repeating Step 2.

  6. Place a towel across the forehead to absorb any excess water during the final rinse.

SPECIAL APPLICATIONS

Follow the instructions as you would in a normal application, however, substitute using these suggestions.

Geriatric or High-Back Chair -If the chair that customer is sitting in is higher than the customer's neck, the Comfort-Cape™ can be shaped into a channel  around the chair to allow the water to flow into the sink.  Eliminate any creases that may restrict the free flow of water.

Short or Young Customer - If the customer's neck is even or lower than the sink's height, seat the customer slightly away from the sink to allow the water to collect into a small pocket of the cape

Then empty the water into the sink.  Do not seat the customer too far from the sink as too much water in the pouch may pull the Comfort-Cape™ out of the sink.

Your assistance may be needed to empty the water into the sink by reaching under the water pocket and slowly lifting the pocket until the water flows into the sink. Your assistance is necessary only when the weight of the water could pull the Comfort-Cape™ out of the sink.

Remove the Comfort-Cape™ slowly to allow any water remaining to empty into the sink.

HAIR CUTTING

The Comfort-Cape™ can be used when cutting hair.

  1. Make sure the cape is thoroughly dry.
  2. Place the Comfort-Cape™ onto the shoulders of the customer.
  3. Put a wide mouth wastebasket underneath the bottom of the cape.
  4. Proceed to cut wet or dry hair, placing the cuttings onto the Comfort-Cape™ allowing the hair to slide off the Comfort-Cape™ and into the wastebasket.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CAPE

  1. Hand Wash ONLY. DO NOT SOAK.
  2. Squeeze excess water from the sides.
  3. Air dry ONLY.  Placing the Comfort-Cape™ under a salon hair dryer is acceptable when placing the cloth side to the heated air.
  4. DO NOT PUT THE COMFORT-CAPE™ IN A CLOTHES DRYER as the plastic liner may melt.
